What to Ask Before Your Next Injectable Session Freehold, NJ

Botox® and dermal fillers are both trusted and proven methods for regaining a noticeably more youthful complexion – that’s why they’re both so popular! As amazing as they are, however, it’s important to do your homework before undergoing these age-defying treatments. Here are a few helpful questions you should ask:

Which should I use, Botox or dermal fillers? Botox relaxes the muscles in the upper part of the face and around the eyes which allow you to furrow your brow, squint, and frown. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, such as Versa™, Restylane®, or Juvederm®, work by instantly volumizing the lower two thirds of the face in the cheeks, mouth, or nasolabial area.

What these differences mean for you is that you can enjoy both treatments, if you desire, to achieve balanced, overall rejuvenation to your face in one convenient session. Since Botox and dermal fillers work differently and rejuvenate different areas of the face, they make a perfect combination treatment. Whichever method you use depends on the kind of results you’re looking for. If you need to smooth wrinkles around the forehead and eyes, you may opt for Botox only. Conversely, if you desire more volume in your mouth or cheeks, you may love the results of a dermal filler session.

The other question to ask yourself is if you are looking for gradual improvement or immediate results? Botox can take up to a week to reveal optimal wrinkle-smoothing benefits, whereas dermal fillers provide an immediate plumping effect. We can discuss the details with you and help you make an informed choice during your personal consultation.

Is there anything I can do to enhance my results? Yes! There are a number of things you can do before and after your injections to help improve your results and your recovery. Here are a few:

  • Avoid alcohol and other blood thinners (NSAIDS, garlic, ginkgo, ginger, and ginseng) for at least two days leading up to your injectable session. Having blood thinners in your system can increase your likelihood of bruising or bleeding. (That being said, always consult your physician before making any changes to the medications you take.)
  • Ice your injection areastrong> shortly before leaving for your injectables session. Icing the area helps to shrink the blood vessels, which is another effective way of reducing the likelihood of bruising or pinpoint bleeding. After your injectables session, applying ice on and off for a few minutes at a time can help reduce swelling, as well.
  • Apply a cream or serum containing retinol into your daily skin care routine. Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A, the most widely-studied and proven skin care ingredient in the world. Retinol rejuvenates skin by stimulating cellular turnover and new collagen growth. Applying it daily enhances the foundational structure of your skin!

How much downtime will I have? Overall, injectables require minimal to no social downtime. With every injection, however, there is a risk of swelling, bruising, and pinpoint bleeding. It’s important to always schedule your treatment at a time when you can go home and rest. Swelling is likely during the first few days and can take up to one week to fully subside. Side effects are usually mild, but if you plan ahead for them, you won’t be stuck going to a dinner party when you don’t look your best.

Never schedule your appointment one day or less before an important event. And who doesn’t appreciate a great excuse for some legitimate relax-at-home time, anyway? With an injectables session, you can start looking and feeling your best AND grab some much needed relaxation time while you’re at it. :
